Cancer comes in different types and guises, with some kinds been really common, and others been much rarer. Some cancers can develop by chance, and have very little to do with the life style that people lead. Often though cancer develops because people act in ways that increase the risks of them developing some types of cancer. As further medical research is carried out more risk factors are identified. At least when the high risk factors are known it gives people the opportunity to change how they behave and what they to their own bodies.
In the last century the cases of cancer have increased many times over, as a result of other diseases declining, living standards increasing, and medical sciences being able to diagnose more types of cancer. Doctors have not always known what caused differing kinds of cancers yet they do now. Thus the medical profession know what people need to do to lower the risks of developing cancer.
One of the most significant steps can take to drastically lower the risks of cancer is to stop smoking. Giving up smoking is a benefit to peoples’ health in different ways. Smoking contributes to heart attacks, strokes, and high blood pressure. So kicking the habit not only lowers the risk of cancer it improves general health and well being. Researchers proved that it was not only smokers that had a much higher risk of developing lung cancer, passive smokers do as well.
Passive smokers were non-smokers that breathed in the smoke of smokers. The proof that passive smoking gave non-smokers the same risks of developing cancer has led to the banning of smoking in public places in a growing number of countries.
Being exposed to sunlight for too long raises the risks of skin cancer. The onset of climate change as well as tans been fashionable have combined to increase the incidence of skin cancer. The risks can be lowered by covering up when the sun is really bright, wearing sun hats, and wearing lots of sunscreen. People need to cover up and make sure their sunscreen is still there. It could mean it takes longer to tan yet it is protecting their health.
People changing their diets is another key factor in lowering the risks of developing cancer. Research indicates that diets higher in saturated fats make cancer far more likely. Saturated fats are really bad for health so cutting down reduces the risk of heart attacks as well.
